Shopify currently allows Rewind to backup and rewind the following items:
- Products and Product Images
- Customers and Customer Tags
- Orders and Draft Orders
- Collections (and their associated Products)
- Blogs and Blog Posts
- Themes (*coding and asset levels)
Regarding Products, Rewind backs up/rewinds all of their following properties:
- Product type
- Product vendor
- Bar code
- Weight, etc.
Rewind also backs up Product Inventory, though we do not rewind it.*
While Rewind is also able to backup and restore the URL path assigned on a Product itself, we do NOT yet backup/rewind any URL Redirects that have been created in the Redirect Navigation Manager.
*Please Note: Rewind cannot currently backup ALT TAGS for Products or Product Images, as this is considered metadata. At this time, because of Shopify's current API, Rewind can only backup metadata for those on our Plus Flex Plan and higher - but this is something we're working to expand for the rest of our customers within the next few months.
Rewind also backs up but cannot automatically rewind/restore your:
- Menu Navigation
- Store Policies
- Customer Saved Searches
- Shipping Zones
- Product Inventory
While the app can't automatically restore this data, we do save it and can work with you to manually recreate/restore it, at your request.
Lastly, due to Shopify's current settings and permissions, Rewind is NOT yet able to backup and/or rewind the following:
- Store Settings
- Other Apps (and their data located therein)
- Files (from the Files section of your Store Settings)
- URL Redirects
- Product Reviews (as these are located within a separate app)
- Store Analytics and Graphs/Reports
- Customer Accounts*
*We can backup/rewind your Customer information, as located in your store admin under 'Customers' - but not your own customers' accounts, such as their login/password data, etc.
We're working with Shopify on the above list, as our goal is to one day be able to provide 100% backup coverage across your entire store! :)
If there's anything we don't backup that you wish we could, you can help us make this a reality faster by contacting Shopify Support and requesting that they make backups and restoration for that item possible. If they know that customers are in need of this feature, they may be much more likely to work on allowing the access needed to make it happen.
When does Rewind for Shopify run a backup?
On all our plans, Rewind backs up once a day at midnight (local time).
In addition, on all but our Free Flex plan, customers are also provided the option to perform a manual backup at any time required, as well as continuous, real-time back ups of certain data - ensuring that every change you make is automatically noted and reflected in Rewind.
The best part of Rewind is that unless performing a manual backup, there's nothing you need to worry about to ensure your backups get done. You do not even need to be logged into your account - you can just sit back and know your data is being kept safe and up-to-date!
For Shopify store owners, we continuously backup the following items in real-time:
- Smart Collections*
- Custom Collections*
*For Collections, we only backup the changes to the Smart/Custom Collection itself (name, image, description, etc.) in real-time, and not the Collects or Products referenced by the Collection. Changes to their Collects and Products can only be saved during your next store backup (either manual or the automated, daily store backup at 12am).
PLEASE NOTE: All other items (i.e. Pages, Themes, Blogs and Blog Posts, Navigation, etc.) are only saved when your next store backup is run and NOT in real-time, as Shopify doesn't yet provide us the necessary WebHooks for real-time backups of these types of data.
***If you're on any plan higher than Free Flex plan, performing a manual backup after you make any changes to your store will activate an up-to-date backup for these items. We HIGHLY recommend running a manual backup any time any major alterations are made within your shop.***
