Our goal for Rewind is to build a backup solution that protects your entire store. We won't stop until we do that.
At this time, Rewind currently backs up the following items:
- Products and product images
- Product reviews
- BigCommerce brands and brand images
- Configurable fields
- 301 redirects
- Blog Posts
*For Themes, Rewind can automatically backup and rewind your store's Stencil Theme(s). We cannot automatically backup your Blueprint Themes, as there is no API to access Blueprint Themes. However, we're developing a workaround for this, and a help article detailing how to assist us in getting this setup will be released this week.
For PRODUCTS, we backup the following aspects:
- Product details
- Product images
- Product variants
- Product options
- Videos (links to the video, not the source video)
- Complex rules
- Option Sets*
- Custom fields
- Bulk pricing rules
*Rewind has now recently begun to properly backup your Option Sets, though our system still cannot rewind/restore them automatically. They can, however, be restored in a rewind manually. While we work with BigCommerce to make this possible, all rewinding functions have been temporarily disabled from the customer's end of the app. We will manually perform all rewinds needed, to ensure that no data is lost in the process. Once we can configure our system to handle this automatically, the rewind function will be made available to the customer again. It's important to note that at the moment we only backup physical products, not digital products. Additionally, while we backup your products' Complex Rules, we cannot yet rewind them.
We've heard from customers that Images are important to them, and we plan on backing that data up later in the year.
If there's anything we don't backup that you wish we could, you can help us make this a reality faster by contacting BigCommerce Support and requesting that they make backups and restoration for that item possible. If they know that customers are in need of this feature, they may be much more likely to work on allowing the access needed to make it happen. :)
When does Rewind for BigCommerce run a backup?
On all our plans, Rewind backs up once a day at midnight local time.
In addition, on all but our Growth plans we backup certain data continuously, ensuring that every change you make is reflected in Rewind.
The best part of Rewind is that unless performing a manual backup, there's nothing you need to worry about to ensure your backups get done. You do not even need to be logged into your account - you can just sit back and know your data is being kept safe and up-to-date!
For BigCommerce store owners, we continuously backup the following items in real-time:
PLEASE NOTE: All other items (i.e. Pages, Blogs and Blog Posts, Themes, etc.) are only saved when your next store backup is run and NOT in real-time, as BigCommerce doesn't yet provide us the necessary WebHooks for real-time backups of these types of data.
If you're on any plan higher than the Growth plan, performing a manual backup after you make any changes to your store will activate an up-to-date backup for these items. We HIGHLY recommend running a manual backup any time any major alterations are made within your shop.
